Pohela Falgun, the first day of the month of Falgun, welcomes spring. Dhaka dresses in yellow and orange, women wear flower crowns, and the Basanta Utsab, the spring festival, fills Bakultala at the Faculty of Fine Arts with songs, dances and poetry.
Updated 21 October 2026.
Pohela Falgun is on 14 February, which in Bangladesh is also Valentine’s Day. In 2027 it is a Sunday. Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 or 9 February 2027, so the celebrations may be quieter than usual; we will update this page.
On 14 February 2026 the Jatiya Basanta Utsab Udjapan Parishad held the main morning programme at Bakultala, with more events at Shilpakala Academy, and crowds in yellow filled the university area all day.
Spend the morning at the festival with one of our guides, then explore Dhaka University and Old Dhaka. Plan your trip.
Sunday 14 February 2027.
Yellow or orange, the colours of spring. A flower crown completes the look.
