Questions travellers ask us
Straight answers about booking, visas, money, hotels and safety on a private tour of Bangladesh. If yours is not here, ask us on WhatsApp.
Planning and booking
Are your tours private?
Yes. Every tour is private: just you and the people you travel with, with your own guide, driver and vehicle. You choose the dates.
Can I change a tour or ask for a tailor-made trip?
Yes. Any tour can be shortened, lengthened or combined with another, and we are glad to plan a trip from scratch. Plan your own route in our trip builder, or tell us your dates and interests and we will suggest one.
How far ahead should I book?
For the cool, dry season from November to February, two to three months ahead is ideal, because good hotels in Srimangal and Sundarbans boats fill up. Outside that season, a few weeks is usually enough. Day tours in Dhaka can often be arranged for the next day.
When is the best time to visit Bangladesh?
November to February is the most comfortable: dry, sunny and around 15 to 27 °C. March to May is hot. June to October is the monsoon, when the country is at its greenest and there are few other travellers, but some river and forest trips depend on the weather.
How do I book?
Plan your trip in our trip builder, ask for a price on any tour page, or message us on WhatsApp. We reply with a plan and a full price. When you are happy with it, a deposit confirms the booking. Our booking terms explain the details.
Visas and arrival
Do I need a visa for Bangladesh?
Most visitors do. Citizens of many countries, including Germany, the UK, the US, Canada and Australia, have been able to get a tourist visa on arrival at Dhaka airport, while others must apply in advance. Rules change, so please check with the Bangladesh embassy in your country before you travel.
Can you help with my visa?
Yes. Once you book, we send an invitation letter and your tour confirmation, which immigration officers often ask to see, and we explain what to bring.
Will someone meet me at the airport?
Yes. On multi-day tours your guide or driver meets you in the arrivals hall at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with a name sign, and we can arrange airport transfers on their own as well.
On tour
What language do your guides speak?
All our guides speak English. We answer enquiries in English and German, and can arrange guides for other languages on request.
What kind of hotels do you use?
Comfortable, clean hotels and eco-resorts that we have stayed in or checked ourselves. Outside Dhaka the best available is often simpler than in Europe, and we tell you honestly what to expect before you book.
How do we get around?
In a private air-conditioned car or minibus with an experienced driver, plus boats, trains or domestic flights where they are the better choice. Transport is included on all multi-day tours.
Is the food safe to eat?
Bangladeshi food is a highlight of any trip. Your guide takes you to places with good hygiene, and we recommend drinking bottled or filtered water only. Tell us about allergies or dietary needs and we plan around them.
What should I wear?
Light, loose clothing that covers shoulders and knees is respectful everywhere and keeps the sun off. Women may want a scarf for mosques. Bring comfortable shoes you can slip off at temples and mosques.
Are your tours suitable for children and older travellers?
Yes. We adjust the pace, the driving time and the hotels for families and for travellers who prefer an easier day.
Prices and payment
What is included in the price?
Each tour page lists exactly what is included and what is not. As a rule, multi-day tours include your guide, private transport, hotels and entry fees, and the price is shown per person for your group size.
How do I pay?
A deposit confirms your booking. Balance: On arrival in Bangladesh. We accept: Bank Transfer, Cards & Cash. Details are in our booking terms.
What happens if I need to cancel?
Our cancellation terms: Free cancellation for 7 days notice. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation.
What currency should I bring?
The local currency is the Bangladeshi taka (BDT). ATMs are common in cities and towns, and US dollars or euros are easy to exchange. Card payments work in larger hotels and shops but not in markets or villages, so carry some cash.
Safety and health
Is Bangladesh safe for tourists?
Most visitors find Bangladesh friendly and welcoming. The main risks are traffic and, at times, political demonstrations. Your guide is with you throughout, we watch local news and change plans when needed. Read more on our travel insurance and safety page.
Is it safe for women travelling alone?
Yes, many of our guests are women travelling alone. With a guide beside you, you avoid most unwanted attention, and modest clothing helps. We can arrange a female guide on request, subject to availability.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. We ask every guest to have travel insurance that covers medical treatment and emergency evacuation. Cover for cancellation is strongly recommended.
Which vaccinations do I need?
There is no required vaccination for most visitors, except yellow fever if you arrive from a country where it is present. Talk to a travel clinic six to eight weeks before you go about routine vaccines and those usually recommended for South Asia.
